3 questions to Bart Packer, CTO

What are your main goals as CTO of Lifthium Energy?

As Chief Technology Officer (CTO), my primary goal is to support the commercialization of our sustainable technology. This involves developing a rigorous scale-up program, iterative optimization, and a robust risk mitigation strategy. With sustainable technological innovation as our cornerstone, we aim to play a meaningful role in the transition towards a more environmentally friendly energy future. Achieving this goal requires fostering a work environment based on mutual respect, forward-thinking, and promoting the convergence of diverse perspectives into breakthrough solutions.

What differentiating factors would you like to highlight in Lifthium's value proposition?

Lifthium's value proposition is rooted in a deep legacy of know-how in the chlor-alkali industry. Our connection to Bondalti, the largest chlor-alkali producer in the Iberian Peninsula, allows us to benefit from proprietary technology and in-depth knowledge of brine purification, electrolysis, and the safe handling of chlorine and hydrogen gases, which is a differentiation factor from other players in the industry. Additionally, our strategic geographical location enables us to harness 100% renewable electricity at some of the most competitive rates in Europe.

How do you foresee Lifthium’s activity in the future?

While we are currently focused on commercializing lithium hydroxide from technical-grade lithium carbonate, we are already taking the necessary steps to apply electrolysis technology to lithium derived from other sources. As lithium hydroxide is expected to remain a preferred form of lithium in the European battery market, we aim to establish ourselves as a leading supplier of this critical raw material by partnering with geothermal brine suppliers and recycled battery processors.
